A Town
Called Alice Alice Springs ![]() (3 days) Named for the wife of an early South Australian superintendent of telegraphs, Alice Springs is a tenacious town smack dab in the middle of Australia which has played a pioneering role in the growth of the Northern Territory. From its humble beginnings it has evolved into a fairly cosmopolitan place, with art galleries, good restaurants, fine hotels and even a casino! In " the Alice," as the town is called, you'll stay at the Alice Springs Resort - an oasis of luxury five minutes from the center of town and set on the banks of the Todd River - or at the Rydges Plaza Hotel, which offers magnificent views, a health club, tennis courts and an 18-hole golf course. On your second day in the Alice, you'll take a "dreamtime tour" on which you'll learn about the religion, mythology, medicines, games and music of Australia's first settlers, the Aborigines who have lived within this landscape for thousands of years.
Then you'll ride a camel to dinner in a one-hour sunset safari down the Todd River to the Frontier Camel farm, where you'll enjoy a delicious dinner of fresh-caught fish or prime rib. The next day you'll be transferred to the airport.
The tour price includes hotel
accommodations and sightseeing as noted.
